Harper is a service from Oto Health that helps hearing-aid clinics support their patients by text message. This page explains, in plain terms, how we handle information. It is a summary, not a contract — for anything specific, email support@joinoto.com.
What we handle
When a clinic enrolls a patient, we process the patient's first name, last name, and cell number, and the text messages exchanged with Harper. Harper may keep a short, non-clinical note about a patient (for example, which hearing aids they have or that noisy rooms are hard) so the conversation stays helpful over time. Harper does not collect or store clinical or diagnostic records.
How it's used
Information is used only to provide the service — to send supportive check-ins, to let a patient's clinic see the conversation, and to flag when a person would like a human to follow up. We do not sell personal information.
We also analyze how the service performs in de-identified, aggregated form — for example how many patients respond to check-ins, complete their adjustment period, keep their hearing aids, or rate the service. Results we share or publish are statistics only and can never identify a patient: no names, phone numbers, or message content.
Where it lives
Data is stored on Google Cloud and messages are delivered via Telnyx. Conversational replies are generated using a large language model under an agreement that covers confidential handling of the data.
Text messages (SMS)
Harper communicates by SMS text message. No mobile information — including your phone number and your SMS opt-in or consent data — will be shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We share this information only with the service providers that help us operate and deliver the messaging program (such as our messaging carrier, Telnyx), and only as needed to run the service. SMS consent is not shared with third parties for their own purposes.
Patients opt in to Harper through their hearing clinic and confirm by replying YES to an opt-in text from their own phone — see how patients opt in. Message frequency varies depending on the conversation and a patient's check-in schedule. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe, or HELP for help.
Your choices
A patient can stop messages at any time by replying STOP. Clinics and patients can ask us to access or delete information by contacting support@joinoto.com.
Harper provides behavioral support and is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice.
